Airbnb

The Opportunity:
Airbnb, a popular San Francisco startup, was built with the values of hosting and belonging and decided to mirror those values for employees through an in-house food program. To be sure their food program was supporting the energy needs of their valuable employees, they brought on Ola Wellness to educate their culinary team on nutrition.

Ola created nutritional guidelines and an internal comms strategy that complimented the talented chefs and communicated the true value of the unique food program to employees. Ola Wellness led monthly nutrition education workshops for chefs and employees.

The Process:

Step #2 - Build

This client engaged Ola Workplace Wellness to expand the chef’s nutrition knowledge, so we next implemented an education program that included:

  • Nutrition Workshop for Chefs

  • New Chef Onboarding Videos

  • Menu Planning Support

  • In-house snack program Audit and Inventory Strategy

Step #3 - Cultivate

We supported daily dining service with complementary nutrition programming. This included:

  • Lunch and learn workshops

Step #1 - Customize

We collaborated with the head of F&B to establish nutritional guidelines for the dining program. Having a mission in place is essential for program growth and scale strategy. Leandra then developed an internal comms plan that told the unique story of the food program, and the talented chefs that make it happen. Communicating the value of the dining program is an often overlooked piece of the puzzle.

The Opportunity:
An independent K-12 school on Hawaii Island wanted to update the student food offerings to be more nutritious, sustainable and local. This was an especially fun and personal project, as Leandra is an Alumni. We collaborated with the Food Program Manager to conduct a menu audit, improve snack options, build program buy-in with students, and communicate to the extended Parker Ohana.

Ola orchestrated a snack tasting where 50 students from the Student Council were invited to taste and vote on the best local products. Additionally, we kickstarted a free fruit program where community members can donate local fruit, and students can enjoy for free at any time.

The Process:

Step #2 - Build

Ola then identified local snack providers and offered detailed recommendations on alternative snack options with a swap for “red line” menu items.

We hosted an in-person snack tasting for 50 students to taste and vote on new menu items.

We partnered with the Student Sustainability Club to build an educational tool that told the story of the new menu items.

Step #3 - Cultivate

Finally, Ola drafted an additional 6-month nutrition action plan to continue the program. This included suggestions for how lunch vendors could utilize the guidelines to shape their menus. We shared the program with the broader school community through facility meetings, student council, and PTSO, and newsletter content.

Step #1 - Customize

Ola audited the snack shop menu and graded snacks to determine areas of improvement. We then created a set of nutritional guidelines emphasizing the important nutrients for adolescents and presented to stakeholders for sign-off. This guideline now supports snack selection and lunch vendor menu creation.

Asana

The Opportunity:
This fast-growing startup was looking for a nutritionist to advise their culinary team on how to maintain the health of its employees during a time of rapid company growth. What we found was an excellent culinary team and a disjointed wellness program. Spanning a 6-year relationship, Leandra brought cross-departmental collaboration that developed a deeply personalized wellness program to fit their company culture of “whole person care.”

Ola Wellness implemented both chef and employee education every month. Every topic learned by chefs, was experienced by employees through workshops, tasting tables, and educational content.

Our role was to compliment and amplify the exceptional efforts of the culinary team and to be sure the broader employee population understood the deep value of this dining program.

The Process:

Step #2 - Build

We implemented Ola Wellness’s 12-month curriculum to educate chefs and employees simultaneously. Each month employees would learn, taste, and see a health theme. For example, during Immunity month, employees had a workshop on Nutritional Strategies to Bolster Immune, tasted the “Chef’s Flu Shot” as a bone broth demo, and read a newsletter article on the benefits of tree mushrooms on the immune response.

We also built:

  • Food offerings and Virtual education for remote offices in NYC and Dublin.

  • An internal wellness committee.

Step #3 - Cultivate

The length of this relationship allowed for much customization and training. Over our six years at Asana, we supported 3 chefs and 4 employees in getting nutrition certifications. This empowered the team to continue Ola Wellness curriculum internally for years to come.

Asana’s bespoke employee wellness program now includes:

  • In-house wellness committee that continues to cultivate a culture of health.

  • Monthly branded communication including signage, newsletter content

  • Peer-to-peer fitness programs

Step #1 - Customize

This relationship started with the facilitation of the food program's vision and strategy. Together we created a mission statement, set nutritional guidelines, and developed an internal brand for each of the company’s cafes. This helped the company to easily scale its food program without losing nutritional focus along the way.

We evaluated and sent bench marks for program success:

  • Measured food waster which we could monitor over time.

  • Set our event calenders using Energy Forecasting, our planning tool to predict employee stress points.

Vibrant Hawaiʻi

The Opportunity:
A Hawaiʻi Island Non-Profit was seeking a Wellness Advocate in Residence to asses and create wellness programs that keep their team healthy, strong and able to support their large community action programs. This six month deep dive began with data gathering, program development that centered on Hawaiʻian healing traditions; and the development of four foundational well-being markers to guide their employee onboarding and wellness program.

Step #2 - Build

Team Offsite Retreat: Ola organized and hosted this team retreat with resilience as the focal point. We executed:

  • Tailored menu built around ED’s discussion points.

  • Taught a nutrition class on Nutrition to Reduce Stress.

  • Lead movement breaks between meetings.

  • Developed health-related discussion prompts

Step #3 - Cultivate

To keep the team feeling resourced and engaged, we hosted monthly nutrition offerings such as:

  • Virtual workshops

  • Nutritionist office hours

  • Team lunches

  • A Google calendar aligned with the Hawaiian Moon Calander.

  • A weekly practice of the Hawaiian custom of Kilo to promote regular rest and reflection.

Step #1 - Customize

Based in Hawai’i this organization and the unique desire to include Traditional Hawaiian Healing practices into the program.

We developed a well-being survey to gauge interests, stress points, and benchmark program data. In collaboration with leadership, we created a customized 6-month Hawaiian Health program plan.

The Opportunity:
A rapidly growing green energy company needed to build culture across a 60% remote workforce. With health as a priority for the leadership team, they leaned into workplace wellness as an avenue for support and connection across time zones.

Ola Wellness survey and benchmarked the needs and pain points of this unique team. We then set up a daily snack, 1X weekly lunch, and quarterly all-hands gathering to attract people back into the office more frequently.

Ola Wellness created movement spaces around the HQ that prioritized physical longevity. These stations included equipment set up, circuit creation, and custom video workouts featuring the CEO.

The Process:

Step #2 - Build

Ola identified local catering vendors and supported Nevados in selecting a local chef to serve team lunch one time a week.

We sourced, purchased, and stocked snacks, along with all necessary storage.

Ola Wellness worked closely with the CEO to create a fitness space that met his team’s needs and the unique warehouse space.

We developed a series of movement stations and produced short instructional videos featuring the CEO.

Step #3 - Cultivate

We currently manage Nevados’s monthly wellness program that offers education, food, and movement opportunities across their hybrid team. We host:

  • Monthly virtual fitness that brings together the entire team.

  • Slack wellness office hours, embedded in their team comms tool.

  • Monthly meeting movement breaks to support virtual all-hands events.

  • Bring wellness elements to quarterly in-person team events.

  • Food program oversite collaborating with Chefs, Caterers and Office Manager.

Step #1 - Discover

Our first step was to survey and benchmark current employee health and gauge interest in future programming.

We collaborated with HR on a written wellness statement that aligned with company values and presented to leadership for buy-in.

With our new mission statement in hand, we worked with internal designers to brand the internal program and create its own unique name and logo.

We conducted a snack room audit and offered recommendations on infrastructure and inventory.
